Happy New Year! I pray you had a wonderful Christmas vacation. We are looking forward to many upcoming events and want to make sure you are aware of the many things we have going on.

  1. Basketball games are on the school calendar. We have our first away game this Thursday!
  2. The end of the semester will be January 12th and will be an 11:30am dismissal time. Due to the short week and weather delays for many districts, we are giving students until next Tuesday, the 16th, to finish up testing for the second quarter.
  3. We have another field trip scheduled for January 25th. It will be for the entire school (hence the notice). The cost will be $15 per student. We will be going to the Carnegie Science and Sports Center in Pittsburgh. You can register your students HERE
  4. There will be a merit store on Wednesday, December 17th, for students to spend merits they have earned so far this year.
  5. Many public schools have moved to remote instruction for days they miss due to weather or other reasons. We have avoided this in the past, but feel that it would be beneficial to implement this system moving forward. We schedule 180 days of school with a minimum number of instruction hours to meet the state requirements (hours are more important than days which is why we can generally afford extra days off). Moving to remote instruction will prevent the necessity of adding days to the end of the calendar year (in case we don’t make the required number of instruction hours). These days will simply be days where students work on their PACEs at home. We will start having students take home all their PACEs during the winter months in case we have to cancel school and have a remote instruction day. Supervisors will be available via text those days in case you run into any questions. At this point in the year, most students are capable of figuring out what work they would need to do from home. Students who do not work from home on those days (based on notebook checks upon return to school) will be given an unexcused absence. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding these remote instruction days.
