With many different illnesses being prominent in our general area, I just watned to copy and resend this information from the start of the school year. Pleawse do your part to help us keep our entire school family safe.

At the beginning of each school year, we like to remind parents of the illness guidelines we follow here at BBCA. These guidelines have been established by school leadership and are aligned with the health codes of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

As a Christian community, we are called to consider the well-being of others. In this context, that means being mindful of both our staff and student body when deciding whether a child should attend school if they are unwell. While it is no secret that a few members of our school family have compromised immune systems, this year we are also blessed to welcome a student with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis (see links below if you would like more detailed information) is a genetic condition that is not contagious, but it does leave individuals especially vulnerable to viruses and infections. Something as common as a cold, the flu, or Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease could quickly compromise this student’s health and potentially lead to a prolonged hospital stay. Because of this, we are asking every family to exercise an extra measure of caution when making attendance decisions. In doing so, you are not only protecting your child’s classmates, but also teaching your child a valuable lesson in compassion and care for others.

Please note, our policies have not changed. We simply want to underscore the importance of following them faithfully:

Students should remain home if:

1. They have had a fever (100°F or higher) within the past 24 hours, without the aid of Tylenol or ibuprofen.

2. They have experienced diarrhea or vomiting within the past 24 hours.

3. They have a rash that is contagious or unexplained. A physician’s note is required for return if the rash is unusual.

4. They have symptoms of pink eye (red, irritated eyes with drainage).

5. They have persistent coughing or sneezing that significantly disrupts their own learning or the classroom environment.
